History of the Granite Club
The Granite Club started in 1883 as the Granite Curling Club of Toronto, and the city’s first curling rink was built on the site. The original building was demolished in 1959, and a new structure was built in its place. In 1985, the Granite Club was gifted to the City of Toronto, and since then it has been managed by the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division. In 1987, the City of Toronto granted a 99-year lease to the Granite Curling Club, which is responsible for maintaining the facility. Since then, the Granite Curling Club has gone through several renovations, including the addition of new windows, the removal of asbestos from the roof, and the installation of new plumbing and electrical systems. In 2006, the curling club put up $1.25 million to fund the construction of a new addition, which included a new second-floor lounge and kitchen, a new entrance, and a rooftop terrace with a view of the city skyline.
